Follow Our Progress

September 3rd 2003

Today got off to a good start.  We removed the side panels from the right side of the bus so I could get the saw as close to the wall as possible.  It took us about an  hour or so to remove all of the side panels and clean up all of the screws and pieces that were now in the way.  A few hours later and We had the bulk of the right side platform removed.  All that remains is a strip of the platform along the wall.

We removed most of the bolts along the edge of the wall after a good coating of WD-40 on the threads.  About 12 or so of the bolts would not budge, so tomorrow they will be on the list of things to get done.

At this point, we now have a pretty good idea of what the sub floor looks like.  There are a few places here and there that will need to be replaced for sure.  Judging from the amount of black dust we have found under the platforms, I think it's going to be necessary to remove the sub-floor.  If for no other reason, to get all of the black dust out of the vents and provide better access to the underside of the bus.

I'm not quite sure what the next step should be.  We pulled down several sections of the ceiling.  There was insulation and the ceiling material (some kind of Formica with foil backing) is in great shape, so I am reluctant to rebuild it if it isn't absolutely necessary.
