Follow Our Progress

2003
We had a very good day today despite some pretty heavy rain at times.
 |
On our (now usual) stop by the home improvement store to find a
replacement for the not so great lights that we had picked up
the day before, we came across a bunch of lights that were
previously displays. They were all marked at $10.00 each
and a couple of them looked like just the thing to light the
living and bathroom areas.
The smaller one (shown in the image) will work nicely in the
bathroom. The larger one that matches this one perfectly
will light up most of the living area. We think that they
look pretty good with the existing bus lighting and they both
work perfectly.

 |
Our first attempt at the cheapest possible lighting did not turn
out all that good. The lights would not work as a flush
mount and were not adjustable, so we decided to flick in the
really cheap route and go with something a bit more practical.
The exterior lights just have to go. They're cheap for
a reason...

We ended up choosing a fluorescent light that only draws
about 15 watts of power and runs cool enough to not be a hazard.
They are temporarily wired on both sides of the bedroom door. I will move them
to the bottom of the cabinets that I intend to install once they are in place.
The lights and bulbs cost us about $17.00 each.

While I worked on putting up some plywood sheeting to close off
the back bedroom, Becky worked on insulating the engine
compartment to reduce the noise and keep the heat contained.
Tomorrow we will cover the area with 3/4 inch plywood.
I will need to figure out a way to keep the engine access cover
easily accessible, but the rest of the area can be closed in
tomorrow so I can work on the bed framing.

The wall between the back bedroom and the laundry/storage area
is finally sheeted on one side. The kids had fun switching on and off the
lights and closing the door to the bedroom.
They're very excited and ready for some beds so they can have
another sleep over party. Becky and I are almost ready for
another party too. There's a lot left to do, but seeing
the back bedroom coming together and almost done makes it fun
again.
I have to decide what to do with the escape hatch in the
ceiling still...

The last picture of the day. You can no longer see out the
back window of the bus, and by tomorrow, the end of the hallway
will be sheeted too.
My friend Alan has offered to give me a back up camera that
he has. Apparently it's pretty cool and takes the place of
one of the running lights. I can't wait to take the bus
out for a maiden voyage...

We've got a lot done in less than 2 months. I'm waiting for a
part from the RV supply store. When it arrives we'll be able to
put in the gray water system and have running water. The DC wiring
will have to wait until I get the rest of the 110V wired up. Becky and
I can't wait to get the back bedroom completely paneled. It' looks
so cute now and the girls have been bugging us for beds ever since the
last sleep over party. Hopefully they will get what they want
tomorrow <fingers crossed>. |
