No work done directly on the bus today. I have been reading up
on the electrical and trying to do some prioritizing. The Jeep
repairs have to come first. There's no way we can afford to not
have a reliable vehicle.
Becky called a local transmission specialist and took the Jeep in to
have it looked over. I had not gotten around to putting in the
clutch master cylinder I bought, so she took that along with her to give
to them in case they end up doing all of the repairs to the Jeep.
It's been a better day today. I'm still uncertain how to deal
with the rusted out back window area on the bus. I know that I'll
have to do some tearing down to be able to get to all the rust. I
will definitely have to remove the back window since it is being held in
place along the top by mostly rust. It might be easier in the long
run to replace the back window and rusted out areas with new metal
entirely. I can't see the back window from the drivers seat in the
bus anyway, and it seems like that might be easier than trying to patch
and re-install the window with new rubber.
The big questions on my mind right now is this:
Do I keep the air conditioning compartment in tact and try to make
use of it still or do I rip it out, get rid of the compartment and put a
different end cap on the back of the bus?
Do they even make end caps for a 5307?
If I decide to pull out the heat exchanger for the air conditioning,
do I rip out the rest of the system too? Does that include all of
the piping that goes to the fan unit in the middle of the bus?
There's a lot of wasted space, but it looks intimidating and would
require some additional help and the shop manual for the bus to make
sure that I don't rip out something that needs to be there.
Lots of questions and not a lot of answers just yet... It's
going to take some research and some hard decisions to work through
these questions relatively quickly. I am on a schedule, so I don't
have the luxury of time on my side. |
