Follow Our Progress

Becky and I took it easy today. Our main goal was to burn scrap
lumber and re-route the heater vent tubing to the back of the bus.
 |
We started out by mounting a couple of smoke detectors and a
carbon monoxide detector.
About 20 minutes after they were installed, both of the smoke
detectors went off. The wood burning stove has been giving
off a lot of smoke and fumes as the paint on the outside of it
bakes.
I had to remove the batteries from both of them for the next
few days as we burn the rest of the scrap wood. Once all
of the paint on the stove has been thoroughly baked on, I doubt
that we will have a problem with the smoke detectors.

I don't think I have seen Becky smile so much in a while.
She is having so much fun burning things.
I checked the wall and beneath the stove in the
afternoon. Both were too hot to keep a hand on. I
checked the back side of the cement backer board and it too was
pretty hot, but the wall board behind that was only warm to the
touch, so once we have the insulation in place, I feel
comfortable that it will be safe. The stove pipe is a
double wall insulated type made for wood pellet stoves. We
will be adding one more layer of insulation to it before we are
done with the installation.

We took a break for lunch... All of that scrap wood
burning made us hungry I guess.
It was nice to be able to add a couple of leaves to the table
and fit the whole family around it. There was still enough
room to walk between the table and the refrigerator.
I broke the leg on the table trying to put it back
down. It turns out that it had been broken so many times
before that it was only being held together by a few splinters
of wood. We did a temporary patch to it, but I think in
the long run it might be worth it to use the table as a template
and make a new one using the parts from the current one.

We did manage to get the heater vent hose run through the
bathroom and back to the bedroom.
I cut the holes quite a bit larger than needed because the
plumbing will also be running through the same location. I
figured that I'd get the holes cut for both while we had
everything taken apart anyway.

 |
We put a vent box in the bathroom. It will eventually be
hidden from view in a 6" deep wall/cabinet that will also
hide the plumbing.
|
 |
It looks a bit ugly now, but most of the heater hose that you
see now will be hidden from view behind closet doors and under
shelving.

Tomorrow the Erika will be back at school and Becky and I can go back
to work on the cabinets again. It would be nice to get the
cabinets in the bathroom finished so I can visualize where all of the
plumbing will end up going along the walls... |
