Follow Our Progress

November 30th 2003

Today seemed to fly by rather quickly.  The weather did not cooperate with us at all, so again a lot of projects got put on hold again.

We did manage to get the two "D" windows covered.  We moved the cement board out of the way and went to work insulating the window and installing a piece of paneling to finish off the side wall of the bus.

Once the right side was done we repeated the same steps on the other side.

Becky had to fill in one last area with some pink foam insulation scraps that we had kept "just in case".

With the window and lower panel insulated, I went to work figuring out the measurements for the last two pieces of paneling for the side of the bus.

With both pieces in place, both sides of the bus are completely paneled.  We no longer have to keep a stock of the lath material and we threw away the last few scraps of pink foam insulation.

With the rain pouring down outside, I didn't want to try to cut any of the larger sheets of plywood and continue sheeting the rest of the interior, so Becky and I switched gears and went to work figuring out the couch/bed assembly.

We got the measurements for some standard bed sizes and decided that the largest bed size that would fit in the space and still allow someone to walk past the bed when it is down was a double.

A double bed measures 53"x74", so we built a box frame for a 74" long mattress.  When the bed is up it will make a nice long couch.  The frame will support a little over 1/2 the width of the bed when it is down.  The rest of the bed will be supported by an extension.  We have 3 different ideas on how to extend the bed, we have to decide which one we think will make it easy to change.  The box part of the design is the same no matter which one we end up choosing...

We had to stop with just the basic frame in place for now.  We didn't have enough wood to finish the framing and put on a top.  We'll see if the weather cooperates tomorrow so we can get some more supplies.

Becky has made arrangements for a sleep over this coming weekend, so the couch/bed has moved up the priority list for now...
