Follow Our Progress

May 10th 2004

Becky and I worked on getting the wiring to the ceiling vents cleaned up today.  When I first installed them I just taped the wires to the ceiling to keep them out of the way until I felt like fishing the wires through the ceiling.

The last week or so the bus has been getting pretty hot during the day, so the tape was failing to keep the wires from falling down on us and I was getting tired of re-taping...

It took us about 2 hours or so to take down a section of the ceiling and fish the wires from both fans along the edge of the ceiling to the fuse box located just above the batteries.

Now the wiring to the fans is a lot cleaner.

There never seems to be a good time to work on the electrical system.

I have some work to do to clean up the wiring to the wind generator now that we're finished testing it.  Right now it's wired directly to the battery bank without a fuse or cut off switch.  I've had no luck finding a DC switch that meets my needs, but I do have a 100 amp slow blow fuse that I will put in-line to remove the danger of a dead short through the 2 gauge welding cable that runs from the batteries to the wind generator.

There's also currently no fuse between the batteries and the charge controller for the solar panels.  That is also pretty heavy 4 gauge wire (the same as good quality jumper cables) that could cause some damage if it ever shorted out completely.
