I felt a bit better today, so Becky and I headed out for the bus
pretty early for a change.
 |
We went on a search for more of the same brand of tint that
we used on the hallway window and managed to find one roll that
I thought was long enough to do the remaining 2 windows in the
front of the bus.
Unfortunately, I misread the label and thought that it was 20
feet long. Turns out that it was only 12.5 feet long, so
we were about a foot short of being able to do both windows.

Becky went on another hunt for the same brand and level of
tint while I worked on cleaning off all of the attempted patch
jobs from the front windows.
I have a couple of quotes for re-sealing/replacing the window
rubber and making it look better. Both quotes I got were
lower if I cleaned and prepped the front windows ahead of time
so all they had to do was work on getting it sealed and bad
spots replaced.
As you can see I got quite a bit of silicone and rubber
sealer off the window. The silicone came off without any
effort. It peels right off and didn't stick to the rubber
at all. I doubt it was doing anything at all to seal up
any leaks. I can see why they make special sealants for
window rubber. That stuff was a nightmare to clean
off... It sticks to everything.

Becky made it back with a roll of window tint that was a
perfect match and made by the same company.
The whole roll just barely covered the window. There
was only about 1/4 inch to spare so you know what
happened... Right after we got the protective coating off
and were about to apply it to the window, the edge curled stuck
to itself. In the process of trying to un-stick the
tint from itself I tore a nice chunk of the edge off.
I managed to get the corner patched with a piece of the tint
from an area that we had to trim off anyway, so it all worked
out in the end and other than something that looks like a very
minor scratch you can't tell that we patched it at all.

 |
Once the tint was all in place and the bubbles and air worked
out Becky helped me work on getting most of the front windshield
finished up.
I don't have a good before picture, but trust me the picture
you see to the left shows the window rubber after our initial
cleaning - trust me it is really impressive compared to what we
started with.

We bugged out for the day when it was time to pick up Erika from
school. She'll be on a school break for the holidays starting this
weekend, so we will can stay at the bus a little longer if we feel like
it. Our friends James and Heather stopped by in the evening to hang
out for a while. He brought over a case of his home brewed stout...
Good stuff. |
