August 9th 2003
We moved the bus to a location a few blocks from home. There were a few
other trucks there and even a guy living in a trailer. I felt comfortable
parking it there until we could make arrangements to move it to my friend Tedd's
house. Tedd had offered to let us park the bus in his covered RV spot
while we worked on converting it. There was some concern that the bus
would not fit under the roof. He had measured it out at 10 feet
(previously we had thought that it was well over 12 feet). The bus
measured in at 9 feet 8 inches with the exception of an antenna and the air
conditioning housing on the back of the bus. The roof was also 35 feet
long, so we decided to see if we could get it in there and leave the A/C
sticking out the back...
Before moving it to the more secure location we decided to remove the seats
and get them out of the way first...

Here's the bus as it looked on the second day that it was
home. Not too pretty, but we could see a lot of potential.
Most of the seats were out of the bus at this point. We kept
forgetting the camera when delivering loads of seats to the house nearby. |
 |
At this point we had more than half of the seats out of the
bus. I think there were about 10 pairs left out of the original 22
pairs and we could start to see just how big the bus really was... |
 |
Only 4 more pairs of seats left and lots of room for the
kids to run around... |
 |
All of the seats out and stored next to the house. We
have no idea yet how to deal with them, so until we have some ideas, we'll
cover them up with a tarp and they'll sit right there... |
 |
My wife and I sitting on the last 5 seats in the bus
toasting the end of a good day's work. We didn't think that we were
going to get all of the seats out in one afternoon, but it turns out that
we finished them all in about 4 hours and as many beers. |

My oldest daughter (6 years old) noticed that the sunset was
really pretty out of all of the bus windows, so we gave her the camera and
she took this really nice picture of it. I think that sums up the
whole reason that we're done living in a wood and sheetrock home. We
want to notice more... The sad part is, there is not even one window
facing west in our house - we could never see the sunset from inside like
we did from inside the bus. |
