We wanted to show AJ and Kathy the town of Bisbee Arizona.
Emily took this photo of the main street in
Bisbee. It's a cute little town carved into the valley of
two mountains.
Emily found a tree and just had to hug it...
It's been a little while since any of us have been around trees
<grinning>.
We ate lunch downstairs of the Bisbee Brewery. Because
Emily was with us we didn't get a chance to go into the
Brewery. I sampled the "OK corrAle" and it was
pretty good. I had a desire to go back to brewing my own
beer again though...
Emily played on the display of one of the mining
cars out in front of the Bisbee Hotel. I like displays
where you can touch and feel them (especially free of
charge). It gives you a sense of history and what it might
have been like to work in the mine.
The huge open pit mine in Bisbee.
Amazing. You just can't get the full effect from a
photo...
Erika talked Grandpa AJ into carving a cat for her
too. She played with Emily's sculpture and watched AJ
carve her cat for her.
AJ put the finishing touches on the
sculpture.
It's really neat to see him work. You can tell that he
has been working with wood for many years. He makes it all
look so effortless as only a master of his craft can.
I asked him if he would work with me this summer and teach me
how to carve if we come up to stay for a few months. He
said he'd be happy to have us visit and would teach me
everything he can. I would love to be able to turn a piece
of wood into art... We'll have to spend a bit of time with
AJ and Kathy in Minnesota this summer.
